Toll In Odisha Train Tragedy Rises To 293 As Another Passenger Succumbs At SCBMCH
Cuttack: The toll in June 2 triple train accident in Odisha’s Balasore district rose to 293 with more victim succumbing to injuries during treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Manish Kumar (24), a resident of Jamui in Bihar state. He died at around 1.30 pm while undergoing treatment in central ICU of the hospital, family source said.
The victim was admitted to the SCB MCH on June 3 with critical injuries, a day after the train crash at Bahanaga Bazar station. Despite best efforts, he could not be saved, hospital sources said. The body was handed over to the bereaved family members after medico-legal formalities.
The condition of one more passenger undergoing treatment in the ICU is stated to be critical.
The government had earlier revised the toll in three-way accident, involving Chennai-bound Coromandel Express from Shalimar, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a stationary goods train, to 288 people. Subsequently, five injured passengers have died while undergoing treatment at SCBMCH.
Of around 40 patients admitted to the hospital, 10 are in the ICU and the rest are in different wards.
