Hyderabad: An Indian woman has appealed for help to be rescued after being stuck in Oman for nearly four months.
The woman, from Hyderabad’s Pahadi Shareef, had travelled to Muscat on March 26 to work as a housemaid.
In a self-recorded video sent to a local politician, Shabnam Begum said she had gone to Oman after a local recruitment agent promised her a job as housemaid.
She claimed that her employers made her work “day and night” without paying any salary for three months.
“They also didn’t give me a mobile phone for a month and a half,” she said in an emotional video sent to Majlis Bachao Tehreek’s Amjed Ullah Khan.
Shabnam alleged that she was “tortured and beaten”, and also denied proper food.
Unable to take the abuse and misbehaviour, she said managed to get away from her employer’s home and reach the Indian Embassy in Muscat.
However, she alleged that her agents have taken away her passport, and appealed to Amjed Ullah to “save” her.

According to the politician, Shabnam was lured to Muscat on a monthly salary of 200 Omani riyals (about Rs 50,000).
“After reaching Oman, she was allegedly forced to work in different houses for 12-15 hours daily, denied proper food and accommodation, and was not paid any salary for four months,” he wrote on X and posted her video appeal.
He said that her family has requested External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to direct the Indian Embassy in Muscat to ensure her safety and arrange her immediate return to Hyderabad.
They have also urged the authorities to take action against the recruitment agent who allegedly sent her to Oman on false promises.
