Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to tourism sector in Odisha, tourist arrivals surged to 1,13,83,556 in 2024-25 from 1,00,14,175 recorded in 2023-24, the state Assembly was informed on Saturday.
Replying to a question in the House, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who holds tourism portfolio, stated that the significant rise in the number of visitors was mainly because of the government’s efforts to promote tourism in the state.
On foreign tourist arrivals, she said the number rose from 37,267 in 2023-24 to 56,547 in 2024-25, while domestic tourist arrivals increased from 85,87,087 to 1,13,27,009 during the same period.
Stressing that the government is committed to further boosting tourism in the state, the Deputy
CM highlighted Odisha’s ranking among the top tourist destinations in the country. Key steps include upgrading tourism infrastructure at major tourist destinations and providing basic amenities to visitors.
The government is organizing events like the festivals, International Sand Art Festival, and cultural events to attract tourists. Promotional activities are being carried out through various media channels. Besides, participation in national and international travel fairs is helping to showcase Odisha’s tourism potential, she said.
This apart, the government is working on a policy to attract investments in the sector. Eco-retreats are being developed at scenic locations like Ramchandi, Bhitarkanika, Daringibadi, Satakosia, Hirakud, Putsil, and Sonapur to cater to diverse tourist interests, Parida added.
