Jagatsinghpur: After a rigorous search operation, Fire Service personnel on Tuesday fished out body of the third student, who along with two of his classmates went missing in Devi river near Machhagaon under Balikuda block in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district the previous day..
He has been identified as Subham Patra (15) of Satyanagar in Bhubaneswar. The two other deceased are Satyajit Barik (15) and Swabhiman Barik (16) of Chandrapada village in Ambashala area of the district. The bodies of Satyajit and Swabhiman was retrieved on Monday.
While Satyajit recently appeared for HSC examinational at Ambika High School at Balikuda, Swabhiman was student of Maharshi College in Bhubaneswar. The mishap took place while Swabhiman along with his friend Tapan Kumar Martha (16) was visiting a relative at Ambasala. Swabhiman, Tapan, Satyajit and Subham pedalled to Devi river on Monday morning. Subham went into waters. As Tapan was shooting, he slipped and was swept away by strong river current. Swabhiman and Satyajit dived into the river to save Subham but were caught in the strong current. Seeing his friends drowning, Tapan raised an alarm which alerted locals and they informed police.
Satyajit was rescued in critical condition, but he was declared dead on Balikuda community health centre, sources added.
