Training Launch Of Short-Range Ballistic Missile Prithvi-II Off Odisha Coast Successful
Bhubaneswar: India carried out a successful training launch of short-range ballistic missile Prithvi-II on Tuesday.
According to a Ministry of Defence release, the missile was launched from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur off Odisha coast. “The missile struck its target with high accuracy. The user training launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile,” the ministry said.
A well-established system, Prithvi-II missile, has been an integral part of India’s nuclear deterrence. It is a short-range, surface-to-surface ballistic missile developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It is part of Prithvi missile series which includes Prithvi-I, Prithvi-II, Prithvi-III, and Dhanush.
Prithvi II is an indigenously developed nuclear-capable missile and is capable of carrying a payload upto 500 kg. With a range of 350 km, it is capable of carrying conventional as well as nuclear warheads. The missile is powered by a liquid propulsion system and has a high-thrust engine.
