Bhubaneswar: Travelling to Uttarakhand is set to become costlier with the Pushkar Singh Dhami government mulling a green cess on out-of-state vehicles.
This is expected to come into effect by the end of December, PTI reported quoting an official.
The fee, ranging from Rs 20 to Rs 80, will apply on commercial and private vehicles. Two-wheelers, electric and CNG vehicles, those registered in Uttarakhand and those engaged in essential services like ambulances and fire brigades will be exempted, the official added.
Joint Commissioner (Transport) Sanat Kumar Singh told the news agency that the tendering process for implementing the cess system is underway. Automatic number plate recognition cameras will identify vehicles registered outside Uttarakhand and the amount will be deducted directly from the FASTag wallet of the vehicle owners, he said, adding that the system will be operationalised by the end of December.
Three-wheelers will be charged Rs 20, four-wheelers Rs 40, medium vehicles Rs 60 and heavy vehicles Rs 80. There will also be a provision for quarterly and annual passes, the Joint Commissioner added.
