Tribal Woman Driven Out Of House For Undergoing Tubectomy In Odisha Village
Keonjhar: A tribal woman, who happens to be a mother of 10 children, was allegedly driven out of house by her husband in Telkoi area of Odisha’s Keonjhar district in Odisha for undergoing tubectomy.
The woman, identified as Janaki Dehury of Dimiri village, is forced to stay under a mango tree near their house along with her baby after being thrown out, sources said.
Villagers said Janaki has to encounter this hardship as her husband, Ravi Dehury, believes that she has lost her purity after undergoing the procedure.
The woman reportedly opted for tubectomy after local ASHA workers convinced her about the hazards of giving birth every year for more than 10 years.
Stating that she had 10 children now after the first child had died during delivery, Janaki reportedly said the children are growing up and it had become embarrassing for her to get pregnant every.
Therefore, she reportedly underwent tubectomy at Telkoi Community Health Centre (CHC) recently as per the advice of ASHA workers and doctors.
Though sterilisation is common these days, her husband is not willing to understand and describes his wife as ‘impure’ after undergoing the procedure, sources said, adding that local health officials have said they will look into the matter and try to convince the woman’s husband.
