Mumbai: Even as Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ continues to dominate the box office, the Aditya Dhar directorial has landed in legal trouble. Trimurti Films has filed a lawsuit against B62 Studios over the alleged unauthorised use of the ‘Oye Oye’ track.
The dispute centres around the rights to the ‘Oye Oye’ track, originally composed by Kalyanji-Anandji and Viju Shah, with lyrics by Anand Bakshi.
The song featured in Rajiv Rai’s 1989 film ‘Tridev’, and was sung by Amit Kumar and Sapna Mukherjee.
In its plea, Trimurti Films has alleged that the song — or a version very similar to it — has been used in ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ without obtaining the required licences or permissions.
“The matter was heard in court on Thursday. No interim injunction was granted over the song in the film. The Delhi High Court has referred all parties to mediation, scheduled for April 22, and deferred the hearing to May 6,” Aditya’s legal representative Parag Khandhar was quoted as saying.
A representative from Trimurti Films has confirmed that the matter is currently being addressed in court.
Aditya’s spy drama ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, having rewritten records in the domestic circuit, is making a strong impact globally as well.
Its exceptional performance in India and North America has placed it among the top 10 highest-grossing films of the year worldwide, surpassing several major releases.
As it nears the end of its third week in theatres, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ has crossed Rs 1000 crore net (Rs 1246 crore gross) in India.
The film has earned $26 million in North America and over $15 million across other territories.
As of Thursday, its global gross is estimated at around $170 million.
