Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra is learnt to have quietly tied the knot in a private ceremony in Germany on May 30.

Neither the TMC MP, nor her party have said anything about it as yet.

A two-time Lok Sabha MP from Krishnanagar in West Bengal, Mohua (50) can be seen in a photograph, sourced by The Telegraph, holding hands with Pinaki Misra (65), a former BJD MP from Odisha.

Mahua, decked in gold, is all smiles.

She was earlier married to Danish financier Lars Brorson, whom she divorced. She was in a relationship with advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai for nearly three years, whom she later described as a “jilted ex”.

Mahua’s first term as an MP was cut short after she was accused of raising questions against businessman Gautam Adani prodded by one of his business rivals. In November 2023, while Parliament was moving towards expelling her, Mahua had told The Guardian, “I have terrible taste in men.”

Misra, on the other hand, has a son and a daughter from his previous marriage.

His name had also sprung up during the ‘cash-for-query’ row. The BJP’s Odisha unit had then sought a probe by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police against the 4-time MP after a purported leaked affidavit submitted by businessman Darshan Hiranandani before the ethics committee of Lok Sabha indicated the BJD politician’s close relationship with the TMC MP.

“I felt that, through her, I would get support in other States ruled by the Opposition, because she bonded extremely well with other leaders of the Opposition like Mr Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor and Pinaki Mishra, with whom also she shared close relations,” the leaked affidavit said.

A St Stephen’s College alumnus, Misra is a senior Supreme Court advocate. He earned his law degree from Delhi University. He first won the Lok Sabha seat from Puri in 1996 as a Congress candidate. Over a decade later, he returned to the Lok Sabha from Puri, this time on BJD ticket, serving three terms from 2009 to 2019. He did not contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and the seat was won by BJP’s Sambit Patra.
