Bhubaneswar: A pick-up van driver died and two policemen were injured in two back-to-back accidents on Baramunda overbridge along National Highway-16 in Bhubaneswar late on Wednesday.
According to sources, driver of a pick-up van, carrying chicks, died after being hit by another vehicle. The mishap took place as the driver was attempting to crawl out of the van, which had overturned after hitting the road divider and an electric pole while en route to Khurda from Cuttack.
On being informed, Khandagiri police reached the spot. Two policemen – PCR van driver Chittaranjan Pattnaik and constable Manoj Meher – were hit by a speeding trailer truck coming from the Vani Vihar as they were regulating the traffic. While the truck speeded away after the mishap, the injured cops were rushed to Capital Hospital for treatment.
Two police vehicles and a car were also damaged in the crash.
Senior police officials, including Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh and Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, visited the hospital to meet the injured policemen.
This came a day after a person was critically injured in an accident, involving three trucks, near Palasuni Square in the city.
