Trump Terminates Relationship With WHO, Blames China

Washington: US President Donald Trump announced that the US will terminate its relationship with the World Health Organisation (WHO) over the coronavirus pandemic and also withdraw special trade benefits for Hong Kong as China imposed a new security law.

The US has also cancelled visas of some Chinese citizens. The administration is reportedly considering expelling thousands of Chinese graduates from US universities.

Trump noted that while his country contributes $450 million to WHO, China provides about $40 million and seems to have “total control” over the global body.

“We have detailed the reforms that it must make and engaged with them directly, but they have refused to act,” the president said from the White House. “Because they have failed to make the requested and greatly needed reforms, we will be today terminating the relationship.”

Trump said he will be redirecting the funds to “other worldwide and deserving urgent global public health needs.”

He accused Chinese officials of misreporting obligations to the WHO and pressured it to mislead the world during the early days.
