Turkey Rocked By 3rd Earthquake In 24 Hours; Over 1,800 Killed

Istanbul: A third earthquake in the last 24 hours jolted Turkey on Monday.

Following earthquakes of magnitudes 7.8 and 7.6, a tremor measuring on Richter scale shook southern Turkey in the evening. Northern Syria also felt the tremors and was badly affected as well.

Around 1,050 people have died in southern Turkey, while in Syria, around 800 have lost their lives as per latest estimates.

Turkish President Erdogan said Monday’s pre-dawn earthquake was the “biggest disaster” the country has experienced in the last century.

The fatalities apart, thousands have been injured who are being treated in several hospitals.

The international community has responded to the grave crisis Turkey and Syria are facing.

India is sending search and rescue teams along with medical aid and relief materials.

European Union said it was sending rescue teams after Turkey requested assistance.

“The UK stands ready to help in whatever way we can,” British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak tweeted.
