Berhampur: The Ganjam district police on Tuesday registered a case against 12 Surat returnees who had allegedly escaped from quarantine centres. On the basis of a complaint filed by Tehsildar-cum-Incident Commander of Kodala, two cases have been registered against 12 persons under relevant sections of the IPC, said Ganjam SP.
More than 100 migrants had reportedly escaped from two quarantine centres in Beguniapada block of the district on May 3. While all of them have been traced, cases have been registered against 12 of them, said reports.
They have been shifted to the quarantine centres by the district administration. As per the guidelines of the state government, all returnees from other states will undergo a mandatory quarantine of 14 days at Temporary Medical Camps.
The SP also appealed to the Surat returnees to follow COVID-19 guidelines issued by the government scrupulously. Stringent action will be taken against the violators, he said.
