Bhubaneswar: Info Valley police in Bhubaneswar rescued two youths nearly 12 hours after they were allegedly abducted and mercilessly beaten by a group that included a female student.
The incident stemmed from claims that the victims had threatened to circulate a compromising video of the student on social media.
According to police sources, the kidnapping took place when the two youths were on their way to an educational institution in Patrapada on Monday. A car suddenly intercepted them. Four youths emerged from the vehicle, assaulted the duo, forced them inside, and drove them to a secluded location. There, the victims were tied up inside a house and subjected to severe beating.
Following complaints from the victims’ families, police launched an investigation and rescued the youths from a house from Pitapali-Chandaka road following a late-night raid. Those arrested have been identified as Pramod Sethi, Debashish Mahapatra, Oscar Nath, and Brahma Jena. The identity of the female student has not been disclosed.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the two youths had allegedly threatened to circulate a video of the female student viral a few days ago. She informed her friends, leading the group to plan and execute the abduction in retaliation.
Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend any other persons involved in the kidnapping and assault.
