Two Criminals Injured In Police Encounter In Ganjam

Berhampur: Two wanted criminals were injured in a police encounter near Kanamana village under Chamakhandi police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district late on Thursday.

The two injured criminals, identified as Manoj Sahu of Polasara area in Ganjam district and Biswajit Barik alias Muna of Kaipadar area of Khurda district, have been shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

According to reports, the police were on the hunt for these two criminals involved in a dacoity at a filling station at Chamakhandi recently.

Acting on a tip-off that the duo was on the way towards Kanamana village in a car last night, a team of Chamakhandi police rushed towards the village at aroud 2 am. As soon as the police intercepted the car, the duo in an attempt to flee the area opened fire on the police. However, they sustained bullet injuries in their right leg when police retaliated.

Police later seized two country revolvers, four live cartridges, cash worth Rs 1.5 lakh and the car from their possession and admitted them to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital.
