Bhubaneswar: Two drivers were burnt alive after two 18-wheeler trailer trucks collided head-on on Biju Expressway in Odisha’s Sundargarh district in the early h
ours of Tuesday.
According to sources, one of the speeding trailers broke through the road divider near Kaintara Chhak under Bhasma police limits on State Highway-10 and rammed into the oncoming truck. The impact was so severe that both heavy vehicles instantly erupted into flames.
On being informed, Bhasma Police along with the Fire Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control. However, trapped inside their mangled cabins, both drivers were unable to escape the inferno and were burnt alive. Traffic on the expressway was disrupted for several hours amid efforts to clear the charred wreckage of the two trailers.
While the identities of the deceased drivers are yet to be established, police have begun an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
