Cuttack: Two young men died after drowning in the Mahanadi River near Kandarpur in Athgarh area of Odisha’s Cuttack district during an outing on Thursday.
The incident took place when a group of six friends had gone out for a bath in the river. They were swept away by a strong current while taking bath.
The deceased have been identified as Chinmay Das of Kandarpur village, and Sankalp Rath of Athgarh Sasan Sahi.
Sources said the six friends had gone to the river at Kandarpur to bathe when they were suddenly caught in a strong current. Hearing their cries for help, local fishermen rushed to the spot and managed to rescue four of them from the river.
