Two Minor Girls Among Three Killed In Separate Wall Collapse Mishaps In Odisha

Keonjhar/Mayurbhanj: Three persons, including two minor girls, were killed while another suffered critical injuries in two separate wall collapse mishaps in Odisha on Friday night. It’s unclear if heavy rain, which pounded parts of the state on Friday night, led to the cave-ins.

In the first incident, a woman died while her husband sustained critical injuries after a wall of their house collapsed in Tikarpada village under Mahadeijoda panchayat in Sadar block of Keonjhar. The woman was identified as Dutika Behera while her husband was identified as Kanhu Charan Behera.

The couple was asleep in their brick-walled hut when it suddenly collapsed. Dutika died on the spot. Villagers rescued Kanhu and rushed him to hospital.

A similar incident took place at Lohakani Bholabeda village under Bishoi police limits in Mayurbhanj district, where two minor girls, identified as Niharika Giri (12) and Sweety Giri (5), were killed.

Both the sisters were crushed to death as a wall of their house collapsed on Friday night while their father Anil Kumar Giri and other family members sustained injuries. On being informed, fire department personnel arrived at the spot and rescued the injured family members.
