Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police have rescued a 11-year-old girl, who left home at Sameigadia under Mancheswar police limits on June 1 after an argument with her mother.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police (CP) S Dev Datta Singh said that the girl was traced to a house near Mancheswar railway station within the next 30 hours. “She left home at around 9 am on June 1. Following a complaint, a special team was formed to trace her. All PCR, evening, and night patrolling vehicles of nearby police stations were alerted. Footage from more than 20 CCTV cameras was scrutinised to know her whereabouts,” he said.
The girl was finally rescued at around 3 pm on June 2, he added.
The CP also mentioned about a 10-year-old boy, who was rescued the same day while begging for food near Baba Sweets Stall, Puri Canal Road, Hansapal.
According to a police release, Havildar Biswajit Routray, while on patrolling duty in PCR-25, received a call from the control room at around 2 pm on June 2 regarding the minor boy. He was immediately rescued and brought to Pahal police station. However, the boy failed to provide his correct residential address.
“It was a challenge to identify the parents and the Pahal police station IIC, after conducting inquiries, could finally trace them to Patharbandha Basti under Saheed Nagar police limits. The boy had gone missing at 10 am that morning,” Singh said.
The CP said that the police teams will be awarded for their quick response to these missing reports. “These rescues are symbolic and show the priority of the police and the state. It also establishes trust of people in the police,” he added.
