New Delhi: In a major development in the probe into singer Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death, the Assam Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Thursday arrested two of his personal security officers (PSOs). The arrests have intensified the ongoing investigation, which has already seen several close aides and associates of the late singer come under the scanner.
Why the guards have been arrested?
According to reports, the SIT has uncovered a suspicious financial trail of around Rs 1 crore linked to the two PSOs. The officers, who were part of Garg’s personal security detail, were taken into custody after investigators reportedly found inconsistencies in their statements and monetary transactions. They have also been suspended from service pending further inquiry.
This is the latest in a series of arrests made in connection with the case. Earlier, Zubeen’s cousin Sandipan Garg, a Deputy Superintendent of Police in Assam, was arrested for his alleged role in the circumstances leading to the singer’s death. Several others, including event organisers and Garg’s manager, have also been questioned by the SIT as part of its ongoing probe.
The Assam government had earlier ordered a judicial inquiry into the case, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assuring a fair and transparent investigation. The SIT is also coordinating with Singaporean authorities, where Garg had reportedly been receiving treatment before his death.

As calls for justice grow louder, Odisha-based sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has lent his voice to the movement through art. On Puri Beach, Pattnaik created a powerful sand sculpture carrying the message “Justice for Zubeen Garg,” symbolising public demand for truth and accountability in the case. The artwork has drawn widespread attention on social media, echoing the emotional outpouring from Garg’s fans and followers across the Northeast and beyond.
The SIT’s focus now is on tracing the money trail and establishing whether the arrested security officers had any direct or indirect role in the events surrounding the singer’s untimely demise. As the probe deepens, the public and the artistic community alike continue to demand that justice be served for one of Assam’s most beloved musical icons.
