Two Players Of South African Cricket Team Test COVID Positive, Miss Culture Camp

Johannesburg: Two cricketers of the South African men’s team have tested positive for COVID-19 and have been forced to miss the specially-arranged culture camp, Cricket South Africa (CSA) informed on Thursday.

CSA, however, did not disclose names of the two players who have been sent into isolation as per protocol.

The South African Board conducted 50 COVID tests on players and support staff ahead of the culture camp in Skukuza, which got underway on August 18.

“The testing is in line with fulfilling the organisation’s obligation and commitment to control the spread of the virus,” the CSA said in a press release.

“There were no replacements made for the two players who tested positive. All those unable to attend the camp will join the proceedings virtually.”

The culture camp, featuring 32 players, has been organized in view of the increasing racial polarisation in South African cricket, which came to the fore once again after the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement.

In July, the CSA had conducted COVID-19 tests for South African female cricketers ahead of a training camp, and three players and support staff had tested positive.
