Two Siblings Rescued From Submerged House In Odisha’s Bhadrak As Flood Claims Seven Lives In 3 Days
Bhubaneswar: After a three-hour-long operation, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel deployed in Bhadrak district rescued two siblings trapped in a house submerged in the flood at Solampur under Bhandaripokhari block.
However, seven others were not as lucky as these brothers.
According Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena, four persons have died in Mayurbhanj, two in Keonjhar and one in Sundargarh in wall collapse and by drowing in the last three days, while one each is missing in Mayurbhanj and Bargarh.
With several districts experiencing low to medium intensity flood amid incessant rain, the Odisha government has already 7,000 people from low-lying areas and they being provided dry ration and cooked food, he said.
“Some areas in Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts are likely to experience low-medium flood. Collectors of the districts have been directed to remain watchful and patrol embankments,” Jena had told the media.
A low to medium flood is expected in Bramhani, Baiarani and Subarnarekha river system, Flood like situation may also arise in the Mahanadi river as the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area (Chhattisgarh and Western Odisha districts) in the next 24 hours, he added.
At least seven teams of NDRF and ODRF each with powerboats have been deployed in Bhadrak and Kendrapada district and two more teams with powerboat mobilized from Khurda, and Nuagaon of Nayagarh district to Kendrapada.
Directorate of Odisha Fire Service has also asked all 338 fire stations in the state to remain alert to meet any emergency situation.
