UK Approves Johnson & Johnson Single-Shot Vaccine

London: The United Kingdom (UK) claims that vaccines have already saved over 13,000 lives. On Friday, the country approved its fourth COVID-19 vaccine — Johnson & Johnson.

Johnson & Johnson is a single shot jab and the UK government has placed an order for 20 million doses. The country, which has recently unlocked most activities, is concerned over the growing number of cases with B.1.617.2 variant, which was first detected in India.

New COVID cases in the UK have gone up to over 3,000 a day, with B.1.617.2 variant accounting for 75 per cent of those.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine will carry a warning label about unusual blood clots with low blood platelet count, following similar cases in the United States.

The other vaccines being used to inoculate people in UK are the indigenously developed and produced Oxford-Astrazeneca, Pfizer and Moderna.
