Bhubaneswar: The 34-year-old man, who was identified by the BMC after he returned from UK to the city, has tested positive for COVID-19 at a private lab. He reached the city on December 18 and is now admitted in the COVID hospital.
He has mild flu-like symptoms. His samples are being tested at Regional Medical Research Center (RMRC) using Spike Genone Sequencing technique to find out whether it is the new highly transmissible strain or not. Contact tracing has been complete, according to officials.
A kiosk has been set up at the terminal of the Biju Patnaik International Airport and all passengers arriving will be tested within 14 days. Any returnee not having a COVID-19 negative report will have to undergo tests.
The new strain which is said to have 70 per cent higher transmissible rate, has caused panic throughout the country.
