Ukraine Invasion: Russia Seeks Military & Financial Aid From China, Say Reports
Moscow: Nineteen days into Russia’s invasion, Ukraine continued to resist enemy forces bravely. Despite heavy and continuous shelling and bombardment across the length and breadth of Ukraine, Russia is yet to take control of capital city Kyiv.
Military experts are of the opinion that Russia has been surprised by the stout Ukrainian resistance.
Reports in US media say that Russia has sought military and economic aid from China for the war in Ukraine.
US officials were quoted as saying that Russia had requested military equipment and support from its ally China.
Moscow has also asked for economic assistance to fight crippling sanctions imposed on it by Western nations, New York Times wrote.
A Chinese embassy spokesperson in Washington, however, denied knowledge of any such development, reported AFP.
Meanwhile, the White House has warned Beijing of severe consequences if it helps Moscow evade sanctions.
The White House announced that a high-level American delegation will meet a top Chinese official in Rome.
“National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and Yang Jiechi, the Chinese Communist Party’s chief diplomat will discuss ongoing efforts to manage the competition between our two countries and discuss the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on regional and global security,” National Security Council spokesperson Emily Horne said in a statement.
Beijing has not directly condemned Moscow for its invasion of Ukraine. In fact, China has echoed Russia’s main grievance by blaming NATO’s “eastward expansion” for worsening tensions between with Ukraine.
