Sambalpur: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday called upon the students of Sambalpur University in Odisha to take the initiative in solving the issues beyond education in the state.
Addressing the students at the 58th foundation day of the university, Pradhan said the people of Sambalpur district have demonstrated their valour, courage and leadership at different times of Indian history, be it freedom struggle or armed rebellion against British rule.
“With the country going to celebrate centenary of Independence in 2047 and Odisha for its formation on language basis in 2036, it is time for the students to come forward to shape the future of the nation. Having medical college, IIM and university of technology, Sambalpur can play a major role in playing a major role as the centre of knowledge driven economy,” he said.
Calling for sustained efforts to achieve excellence in education, the minister said, “Our aim is not only to establish institutions like Havard University, MIT and Stanford University in the state, but also compete with them.”
Pradhan unveiled the statues of eminent poets Bhima Bhoi, Gangadhar Meher, Radhanath Ray, Madhusudan Rao and Fakir Mohan Senapati on the premises of the university on the occasion.
