Kingston: West Indies cricket star Chris Gayle, nicknamed ‘The Universe Boss’, has expressed his gratitude to India and its Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a viral video, the hard-hitting opener from Jamaica is heard delivering his thanks-giving message for the COVID-19 vaccine which India has sent to the cricket-crazy Caribbean island.

“Hon’ble Prime Minister Mr Modi, the people of India, the government of India, I want to thank you for your donation of vaccine to Jamaica, I appreciate it. Thank you so much. India, I will see you soon,” Gayle says.

India has provided the vaccine to 70-plus nations. Jamaica received its consignment of 50,000 doses earlier this week.

All-rounder Andre Russell, another popular West Indies cricketer from Jamaica, also thanked the PM for the vaccines. “I just want to say a big, big, big thank you to Prime Minister Modi and the India High Commission. The vaccines are here and we are excited. I would love to see the world going back to normal. Jamaica people really appreciate it and just to show that we are more than close, India and Jamaica are now brothers. I appreciate it and stay safe over there. Peace,” Russell says a video.

Both Gayle and Russell will be in India in a few weeks’ time to turn out for their respective teams Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders in the upcoming IPL.
