UP Govt Makes COVID Testing Mandatory For International Passengers On Arrival

Lucknow: Amid a spike in coronavirus infections in the country, the Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday made COVID test mandatory for anyone returning to India from abroad.

Officials have been advised to send samples which test positive for genome sequencing, reported India Today.

India saw 6,155 new COVID-positive cases on Saturday, with the daily positivity rate being 5.63%.

A day earlier, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya chaired a high-level meeting with Health ministers of states and Union Territories to review the public health preparedness.

He directed states and UTs to identify emergency hotspots, ramp up testing, ensure hospital infrastructure readiness and push vaccination.

According to the Union Health ministry, 23 states and UTs were found to have average tests per million below the national average.
