Bhubaneswar: BJP national president Nitin Nabin, who is on a two-day visit to Odisha, chaired a closed-door core committee meeting of the party’s state unit on Monday.
Party sources indicated the discussions centered on strategies for next year’s panchayat elections, a potential expansion of the state council of ministers, and appointments to various boards and corporations. The focus was also on maintaining the party’s ideological core while in power, organisational strengthening, and coordination between the government and the party apparatus.
The meeting, held at the BJP state headquarters here from 8:30 am, was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, Deputy Chief Ministers K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, state BJP president Manmohan Samal, national vice-president Baijayant Panda, MPs Sambit Patra and Pratap Sarangi, Odisha in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, co-in-charge Lata Usendi, and other senior leaders.
After the meeting, Pratap Sarangi emphasised the importance of upholding BJP’s ideology in governance.
Nabin arrived in Bhubaneswar at 10.45 pm on Sunday for the two-day organisational visit. His itinerary includes a series of high-level meetings, training programmes, and strategic sessions with leaders and office-bearers in Bhubaneswar and Puri. He is also scheduled to visit Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, partake in ‘Mahaprasad’ at the residence of Sambit Patra, before returning to Bhubaneswar for meetings with office-bearers, Morcha presidents and later, the council of ministers.
The timing of his visit is significant, coming days ahead of the BJP govt’s second anniversary in Odisha on June 12.
To mark the occasion, the party has planned a an e-bike rally — in line with the PM’s appeal to conserve fuel — to escort Nabin to Bhubaneswar district training programme in Jatni. Party functionaries said these engagements aim to bolster booth-level readiness and prepare the organisation for upcoming electoral battles, including the three-tier panchayat polls.
