New Delhi: There was a serious disruption in Unified Payment Interface (UPI) on Wednesday evening with several users facing problems across India.
A number of apps, including Google Pay, were down following the outage.
According to DownDetector, there were 3,100 UPI snag-related complaints as of 8.10 pm related to different apps that facilitate UPI use. Of these, there were around 300 complaints by Google Pay users according to the website, 119 complaints related to Paytm app, and 376 users complained about outage on State Bank of India (SBI) platform.
Most of the affected SBI users complained about funds transfer and online banking services being affected.
According to an X user, this is the first time that he experienced any serious UPI problem.
“Not Banks, or gateways, but @UPI_NPCI itself btw, uptime was 100% in feb,” he added in the post.
Another post read: “What is is this Nonsense.?? UPI not Working. My Money is debited but Not credited to My friend account @UPI_NPCI.”
One harassed UPI user wrote, “Is there any problem with upi right now? I tried payments through Google pay, phone pe, paytm, but the payments are getting failed.”
UPI has become the preferred mode of financial transactions for millions, as part of the Union government’s digital India drive.
In January 2025, UPI transactions numbered more than 16.99 billion with the value of transactions exceeded Rs 23.48 lakh crore. It was the highest value recorded in any month, according to the Union Finance Ministry.
