Uproar During CMC Council Meeting In Cuttack; BJP-Congress Allege Corruption

Cuttack: Uproarious scenes were witnessed during the council meeting of the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Wednesday. Corporators belonging to BJP and Congress came face to face with the BJD members.

Pandemonium erupted during the council meeting after some Congress corporators staged a sit-in alleging corruption and arbitrary functioning of the corporation.

The protesters raised slogans against the Mayor alleging large scale financial irregulariteis in the CMC. The BJP coporators also joined the Congress protest and staged a demonstration during the council meeting.

Proceedings were disrupted after the Mayor and CMC Commissioner walked out amid the ruckus created by the opposition corporators.

Claiming that the the council is functioning in an arbitrary manner, Congress Corporator from Ward No. 50 Santosh Bhola said lamented that he was not invited to an event where a community health centre was opened in the city.

Alleging massive corruption in the civic body, Bhola said the party corporators will oppose the Mo Ward programme.

Congress corporators alleged that several houses were damaged in the recent nor’wester rains, but no step has so far been taken to mitigate the plight of the affected people despite repeated requests.

Mayor and CMC Commissioner were not available for comment.
