New Delhi: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has cracked the whip on a candidate who was caught using ‘unfair means’ during a recent examination. The candidate has been barred from all recruitment exams for three years, UPSC announced.
Her current attempt has also been cancelled. The action, taken under Rule 12(1)(h) for using unfair means, highlights UPSC’s continued focus on keeping its examination process clean and merit-based, it has been stated.
In its decision, posted on the official LinkedIn page, UPSC has stated that the candidate violated Rule 12(1)(h), which deals with possession or use of unfair means during the examination.
UPSC chairman Ajay Kumar has said the Commission works towards maintaining high standards in its selection processes. “Any candidate found guilty of misconduct or use of unfair means during exams is dealt with strictly, including cancellation of candidature and debarment,” he said.
Such steps are essential to maintain fairness in recruitment, he said.
Kumar added that UPSC’s reputation as a transparent and merit-based system is built on strict enforcement of rules, where background or influence plays no role in selection. The official post mentioned that this action aligns with the standard penalties listed by the Commission.
“The individual has been debarred for a period of three years from all exams and selections conducted by the UPSC,” the statement said.
This is not the first time UPSC has taken strong disciplinary steps.
The Commission says it has zero tolerance for any behaviour that undermines the fairness of exams. It considers such incidents serious because of their impact on other deserving candidates.
The UPSC conducts competitive exams for recruitment to civil services and other key government roles. Every year, lakhs of aspirants appear with the hope of securing one of the limited posts. The Commission has clarified that only merit should decide the outcome.
This latest case serves as yet another example of the Commission’s strict rules and the consequences of not following them. UPSC officials have also urged candidates to read exam guidelines carefully and maintain integrity at all times.
