Upset Over Mismanagement In Quarantine Centre, Migrants Retreat To Forest In Odisha
Nuapada: Three migrant workers of Ranimunda village under Khariar block in the district opted to live in a nearby forest alleging mismanagement at the quarantine centre.
The three migrants have been identified as Santosh Hati, Bhaktacharan Hati and Hemant Hati.
They claimed that they were forced to take this step as repeated complaints about the lack of basic facilities and poor quality of food served at the centre fell on deaf ears.
According to the sources, the trio was working at brick kilns in Chennai. After the factory was closed due to the lockdown, they stayed there for some time spending from their savings.
They started walking to come home when their savings got almost exhausted. Upon reaching their destination, they started living at the Chindaguda quarantine centre under Khariar block.
When no one paid heed to their complaints regarding lack of facilities, they went back to their home on Friday but the villagers drove them out.
Left with no choice, they decided to live in a forest, which is 3 km away from their village.
