New Delhi: The chief of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Shekhar C Mande, on Tuesday confirmed that the airborne transmission of coronavirus is a “distinct possibility” and said that the use of masks is a must in enclosed spaces too.
A few days ago, the World Health Organization (WHO) had acknowledged that COVID-19 is airborne after more than 200 scientists urged it to do so.
Mande also asked people not to go to crowded gatherings and keep workplaces well-ventilated.
“In open spaces, the small-sized droplets get dissipated in the air very quickly. Moreover, emerging evidence also suggests that the encapsulated virus in such droplets also gets inactivated by sunlight. However, the concentration of virion-encapsulated droplets is likely to be higher in places that are not well ventilated,” he explained on a blog post.
