Utkal University Employee Held In Odisha Capital For Duping Job Seekers Of Rs 40 Lakh
Bhubaneswar: An employee of Utkal University was arrested by the police in Bhubaneswar on Saturday for allegedly duping several youths of lakhs of rupees on the promise of getting government jobs
The accused has been identified as Madhab Charan Sethi, academic coordinator at the Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education (DDCE) at Utkal University.
The arrest was made following investigation into a complaint lodged by one Basant Kumar Das against Sethi at Saheed Nagar police station. In his complaint, Das alleged that Sethi had promised him toarrange an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) job at Odisha Secretariat in lieu of Rs 12 lakh, a police official said.
Das had paid Rs 2 lakh to Sethi in advance, but the accused failed to arrange the ASO job for him. As the accused did not return the money, Das lodged the complaint with police.
The police have registered a case against Sethi under Sections 420 and 506 of the IPC. He was arrested today on the basis of the evidence found against him during the investigation.
According to police, Sethi has duped around 40 youths of over Rs 40 lakh on the promise of arranging government jobs for them.
Sethi was known to many students as he was working as the academic coordinator at DDCE in the University. He had managed to win the trust of many job seekers. Most of the duped youths are the former students of Utkal University, police added.
