New Delhi: Thousands of farmers protesting against three farm laws should be vaccinated against COVID-19, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait demanded on Thursday.
“We demand that those who are protesting here should be given the COVID-19 vaccine. I will also take the vaccine shot,” said Tikait.
Farmers have been demanding the withdrawal of the contentious agriculture laws at different points of the Delhi border since November 26 last year. Many have been seen violating the COVID-19 norms during the agitation.
Since the world’s biggest vaccination drive was rolled out in India on January 16, about 3.5 crore people have been vaccinated, while 6.5 per cent vaccine has been wasted so far.
India has supplied 72 countries with 5.74 crore doses of the vaccine. But Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan reiterated that’s not been at the expense of the need of Indian population.
