Valid Licence Must For Firecracker Stalls In Odisha’s Cuttack

Cuttack: Amid uncertainty on the sale of firecrackers in Odisha’s Cuttack city, a valid licence has been made compulsory for opening the stalls, DCP Pinak Mishra informed media persons on Sunday.

The DCP said that licence will be issued to only those who file the applications following which the stalls will be allowed in open areas.

Though some wholesalers have already applied for permission for selling fireworks, they are not sure about getting the licence and stocking up the crackers.

The state government had restricted the sale of fireworks for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are not able to go for manufacturing fireworks for this Diwali as we failed to comply with the stringent fire safety measures laid down for availing licence. We, however, are hopeful of getting permission for the sale of fireworks,” a group of fireworks manufacturers of Padmapur and its adjacent localities told TNIE.

It is noteworthy that earlier DCP Mishra had said if the state government allows, then as per the direction of the Supreme Court, permission will be given for sale and use of green fireworks only.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the General Administration and Public Grievance Department in a letter to Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday said that permission has been granted for the temporary use of government land at seven different patches for selling firecrackers.
