Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Monday directed vehicle dealers to provide high-security number plates (HSRP) to the customers on purchase of new vehicles by October 31.
In a notification, the Commerce and Transport Department said while it had asked the dealers to provide HSRPs to new customers by October 1, it has decided to extend the deadline till October 31 on account of Dussehra.
“Henceforth, dealers will have to provide customers with new HSRPs by replacing the earlier ones within a month by October 31, failing which the government will not provide the smart card registration certificate to customers,” the notification added.
The HSRPs will come with five years’ guarantee and the third registration mark, a chromium-based hologram sticker, which if taken out, will get destroyed. This will prevent foul play or tampering. The sticker will have details of the registering authority, registration number, laser-branded permanent number, engine number and chassis number, making the vehicle more secure against theft.
The registration mark shall be displayed both at the front and at the rear on all motor vehicles on a plain surface of a plate or part of the vehicle.
The registration mark will be exhibited in two lines, the State Code and the Registering Authority code forming the first line and the rest forming the second line, one below the other.
