Bhubaneswar: Health condition of veteran actor Uttam Mohanty has improved since being shifted out of Odisha, Sports and Youth Services Minister Suraj Suryavanshi informed on Saturday.
“I have been in touch with his family and also spoken to his son. With the blessings of Lord Jagannath, there has been improvement in his health. I would like to wish him speedy recovery and would want him to return to Odisha in fine fettle,” he told reporters.
On February 13, BJD president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had a video call with Uttam’s son Babushaan, who informed him that the veteran actor was recovering slowly.
Actor Anubhav Mohanty also paid him a visit at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he is undergoing treatment after being airlifted from Bhubaneswar on February 8 evening.
On February 10, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also met the ailing actor & his family at the hospital.
The 66-year-old actor developed some health complications while shooting for ‘Bou Butu Bhoota’ outside Odisha and was admitted to to the ICU of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on February 5. He was later put on ventilator support. “The health condition of Odia film superstar Uttam Mohanty is critical. He is suffering from liver cirrhosis. His liver has failed functioning and he is on the ventilator support since yesterday,” the private hospital had said in a statement on February 8.
Following which, arrangements were made to airlift the veteran actor to Delhi for advanced treatment.
Soon after news of his hospitalisation spread, fans, admirers and well-wishers expressed their support on social media platforms. The actor’s family has requested privacy during this challenging time.
Born and brought up in Baripada, Mohanty had made a foray into acting during his college days and acted in 135 Odia and 30 Bengali films. He won accolades for his stellar performance in Danda Balunga, Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta, Rajanigandha, Chaka Bhaunri, Daiba Daudi, Kanya Dana, Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi, Pua Mora Kala Thakura and Lakhe Shiba Puji Paichhi Pua among others. He also acted in a Hindi film Naya Zaher.
His wife, Aparajita, is also an actor.
