Bhubaneswar: Veteran CPI leader Dibakar Nayak passed away in Bhubaneswar following a brief illness. He was 72.
Nayak, who was ailing for some time, breathed his last at the CPI state headquarters Bhagvati Bhavan in the capital city on Saturday night, party sources said.
He had served as the state secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) for many years and was a member of the party’s national executive.
Born at Sendchitira village in Bhadrak district, Nayak began his political career from his student days and was a prominent leader of the AISF.
A former editor of the party publication ‘Nua Dunia’, he was also a former AITUC state vice president, a scholar of communist philosophy.
The CPI has expressed deep condolences over his demise. His mortal remains were kept at the party’s state headquarters in Bhubaneswar party members and others to pay their last respects. Last rites will be performed in his ancestral village in Bhadrak district.
