Cuttack: Vigilance officials arrested headmaster of Government High School at Kendrapara in Odisha on bribe charge on Saturday.
Following a complaint from an employee of the school that headmaster Niranjan Ati was demanding Rs 5,000 for facilitating release of the former’s second phase house building loan, the Vigilance laid a trap.
As per the plan, the complainant went to give the bribe to the headmaster and the Vigilance officials caught him taking the money red-handed in his office chamber. The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Ati and seized.
Following the trap, Vigilance launched simultaneous searches on the residential house of Ati at Banei in Sundargarh district, house at Kasada village under Tikaetpali and his office chamber. The Vigilance officials arrested Ati and forwarded him to the court.
In another case, Vigilance arrested OMVD Traffic Inspector Jagatsinghpur Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra for having unaccounted cash of over Rs 4 lakh.
Vigilance had apprehended Mohapatra near Tarini Chhaka in Biribati, Cuttack on Friday while he was on his way to Bhubaneswar in a car and seized Rs 4.27 lakh from his possession.
Following the interception, Vigilance carried out simultaneous searches at Mohapatra’s residence at VSS Nagar in Bhubaneswar and his rented house at Tarapur in Raghunathpur of Jagatsinghpur and recovered Rs 2,19,265 and Rs 25,500 respectively.
The entire amount totalling to Rs 6,79,485 has been seized. Vigilance has registered a case against the Traffic Inspector under Section 13 (2) r/w 13(1) (b) of PC Amendment Act, 2018.
Mohapatra has been arrested and sent to judicial custody on Saturday.
