Vigilance Unearths 3 More Plots, 6 Benami Accounts With Rs 1.2 Cr Of ‘Tainted’ Odisha Officer

Bhubaneswar: After the end of 5-day remand of former Nabarangpur additional sub-collector Prasanta Rout, the Odisha Vigilance sleuths have unearthed 3 more plots in Bhadrak and Bhubaneswar and 6 Benami accounts, where the OAS office had deposited Rs 1.2 crore.

2 benami plots at Malipada, Bhubaneswar, and another at Bhadrak

The release said that Rout confessed to have opened six benami accounts in the name of different persons and deposited Rs. 1.2 crore. This apart, a bank locker at UCO Bank, Bhadrak, has been traced, it added.

Rout has been sent to jail after completion of 5-day police remand.

Notably, the OAS officer was arrested on June 24 for allegedly possessing disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs.5,21,09,659, 506% of his known sources of income. Over Rs 3 crore unaccounted cash were seized from his residences in Bhubaneswar and Nabarangpur during simultaneously searches by the Vigilance sleuths on June 23. A multi-storey building, five plots, bank and insurance deposits of over Rs 62 lakh (Rs 21 lakh in Benami account) and 2 four-wheelers were also unearthed. The OAS officer spent Rs 87 lakh on the education of his children.

The following day, the government sent him on compulsory retirement.
