Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon, which has become vigorous over Odisha, along with back-to-back low-pressure areas may dump more rains in the state for 4 days.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal & Gangetic West Bengal persisted over the same region at 8.30 am. It is likely to persist over the same region and become less marked during the next 12 hours.
It further stated that the cyclonic circulation formed over coastal areas of central Myanmar and adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to move westwards gradually and under its influence, a low-pressure area may form over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal on September 25. “Moving nearly westwards, it is very likely to concentrate into a depression over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Odisha- North Andhra Pradesh coasts on September 26. It is very likely to cross the South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coast around September 27,” it added.
The weather agency issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain for five districts of Odisha till September 27.
September 24
Heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in the districts of, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Nuapada.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Balasore.
Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
September 25
Malkangiri may experience heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Gajapati, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Rayagada.
Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue at one or two places in Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam,Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.
September 26
Heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph may occur at one or two places in the districts of Koraput and Rayagada.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Balasore, Khurda, Malkangiri, Kalahandi , Nayagarh and Kandhamal.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir and Nabarangpur.
Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal and Keonjhar.
September 27
Heavy to very heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph may occur at one or two places in Nabarangpur district.
Heavy rain along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may continue at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput.
Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph are also likely at one or two places in Nayagarh.
Thunderstorm/ lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 20-30 kmph gusting to 40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.
Squally weather may prevail with wind speed 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph from September 24 to 25, and increase to 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph from September 26 to 28 over North, West Central Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha coasts.
