Cuttack: Locals detained forest officials at Baharana village in Niali of Cuttack district for hours on Friday after two more sheep were found dead the previous night.
On being informed, Niali police rushed to the spot and rescued the officials. They also assured the villagers that immediate steps will be taken to nab the sheep killer.
The attack was similar to that in the past.
Besides, a resident of Majhikhanda village was reportedly attacked by a wolf or a pack of wolves at Niali Chhak on Thursday night.
Concerned over sheep killing incidents, forest and environment Bijayshree Routray has directed the district forest officer to install more CCTV cameras and step up efforts to trace the culprit.
A team of officials from Nandankanan headed by assistant director K L Purohit, who took stock of the situation at Niali on Thursday, identified the pug marks in the area as that of wolves.
