Nuapada: In a tragic incident, A class III student drowned while taking a bath in a canal during near government High Scholl at Budhapada in Boden area of Odisha’s Nuapada district on Monday.

The incident took place during lunch break at the school. The deceased has been identified as Kesav Jagat.

According to sources, Kesav along with his friends went to the village canal to take a bath during lunch break. Kesav drowned while bathing and locals rescued him. He was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Angry over the incident, Kesav’s parents and the villagers sought to know as to how the boys went to the canal during the lunch break of the school. The angry villagers detained the headmaster and staff of the school by putting a lock and staged a road blockade, demanding compensation for the family of the deceased.

On being informed, the police reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters and restore normalcy.
