Visakhapatnam Gas Leak: NGT Issues Show Cause To LG Polymers

Visakhapatnam: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a show cause notice to LG Polymers, , the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and Central Pollution Control Board on Friday, a day after at least 13 persons were killed and around 1,000 affected following a toxic gas leak at the multinational company’s chemical plant near Visakhapatnam,

The show cause was issued after a bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel took up the matter on Friday, news agency ANI reported.

NGT has also directed LG Polymers to immediately deposit an initial amount of Rs 50 crore as damages caused due to the incident.

On Thursday, the NGT had taken suo motu cognisance about the gas leak incident.
