Bhubaneswar: Former cricketer VVS Laxman on Saturday tweeted about a farmer from Odisha, who has been distributing vegetables for free in 15 villages of Bhadrak to help people tide over the hardships amid the corona outbreak and the subsequent lockdown.
“While there is a lot of suffering for people, it’s so wonderful to see people showing their humanity and selflessness,” Laxman wrote.
Chhayarani Sahu, a farmer from Bhadrak district in Odisha, has been distributing her vegetable produce voluntarily to the residents of about 15 nearby villages. Here, he is talking about Chhayarani Sahu (57), a native of Kuruda village under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district, She and her family members have so far distributed over 50 quintal of fresh vegetables in Bhairabpur, Alabaga, Lunga, Brahmanigaon, Binayakpur and some wards of Basudevpur municipality.
She continued distributing packets in nearby villages even when the district was under complete shutdown.
Chhayarani has been growing vegetables on seven-acre farm for the past 20 years. She also earns a living through dairy farming by rearing 20 cows.
