Volkswagen India is the latest to announce that it will discontinue some of its diesel cars post BS6 norms in the country. VW is ending the Ameo 1.5 diesel model in August 2019, according to a report published in NDTV carandbike.
VW, however, will continue selling the petrol version of Ameo.
The 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder diesel in the Ameo produced 108 bhp of power, making it one of the most powerful budget sedans in the market. VW has so far sold over 50,000 units of the Ameo.
Considering the massive investment required for converting a BS4 car to BS6, VW might even discontinue the Ameo completely, the report said.
Most manufacturers such as Maruti, Toyota, Mahindra have announced the discontinuation of their smaller diesel engines when BS6 norms kick in.
