Bhubaneswar: Winter is the best time for outdoor activities. While some like to travel, others find joy in weekend getaways in and around the city.
Bringing a new flavour in weekend fun, Bhubaneswar Cycling and Adventure Club (BCAC) has started a hiking programme on the Kapilash mountains in Dhenkanal. The hike, open for public, is scheduled for this Sunday, December 23. The expedition will be guided by Yogdas Bhoi, who had climbed Mount Everest. “He will apprise us with the technicalities of hiking and mountaineering. He will also give us some tips on hiking,” said Ajay Kumar, BCAC member.
Kapilash is a 2.5 kilometer high mountain. “We will reach Kapilash in our vehicle at 8 am and begin our journey on foot from there. There is a temple nestled between the mountains. We will visit it on our way back,” Ajay added. While members will be charged Rs 400 each, others will have to pay Rs 500. This trip is organised under their signature event conducted every year. “We could not go anywhere last year but prior to that we went to Jajpur and climbed a mountain there,” Ajay said.
They will also organise a coastal trekking in January. The trek will start from Puri. Trekkers will walk the 33km stretch to the Chilika river mouth. There are tent and food arrangements at Chilika.
“Swimming is another of our events. We swim for two kilometers. Last year, 33 people joined us. One of them was a four year old girl. We make sure all safety equipments are included,” Ajay further said.
