Nirakarpur: A dreaded criminal was injured in a police counter at Nirakarpur in Odisha’s Khurda district on Thursday night.
The injured criminal, identified as Feroz Khan, has been admitted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Police said Feroz is a dreaded criminal of Nirakarpur area and has more than 40 cases of dacoity, loot, extortion and attempt to murder pending against him in different police stations in Nirakarpur, Khurda and Banapur.
Though the police had tried to nab Feroz for more than a year, he managed to escape.
To arrest him, a special joint team of police led by the SDPOs of Balugan and Khurda and the police officers of these two police stations was formed.
Acting on a tip-off on the presence of Feroz in Nirakarpur, the team raided the area on Thursday night. Seeing the police, Feroz hurled a country bomb on them. When police retaliated by opening fire on him, he was hit on his left knee and feet.
Police later arrested him and admitted to the Khurda District Headquarters Hospital from where he was shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition became critical.
Police would interrogate him about his criminal activities, once he is discharged from the hospital.
